Every cat learns at their own pace, but most cats progress through The Cat Throne training stages in about six to twelve weeks. There’s no need to rush. Your cat should be completely comfortable and consistently using each tray before moving on to the next stage. Building confidence and trust is more important than following a strict timeline.

Many cats can be successfully toilet trained, but every cat is different. The Cat Throne was designed to make the process safer and more comfortable by giving your cat a wide, stable, non-slip surface instead of asking them to balance on the narrow edge of a toilet seat. The optional step stool can also make it easier for kittens, smaller cats, and older cats to get on and off the toilet.

Very young kittens should wait until they are large, coordinated, and confident enough to safely access the toilet before beginning training.

No—and many cats prefer that you don’t. The Cat Throne seat can stay on your toilet permanently, providing a wide, comfortable platform for your cat throughout their life. It simply lifts up and down as you share your toilet with your cat.

If your cat is young and agile, you may choose to unclip The Cat Throne seat after training. Just keep it somewhere safe. As your cat gets older, you can easily clip it back into place to give them the extra support and stability they may need.

The Cat Throne uses flushable tofu litter during training. Unlike traditional clay litter, tofu litter is water-soluble and breaks down in water. Always flush only small amounts at a time, and never empty an entire tray of litter into the toilet at once.

You can toilet train multiple cats with The Cat Throne. Because your cats will progress through the same training stages, always move at the pace of your most cautious cat. Don’t advance to the next tray until every cat is consistently and comfortably using the current one.

For multi-cat households, patience is especially important. Giving each cat plenty of time to adjust helps make the transition more comfortable and successful for everyone.

The Cat Throne comes in two toilet seat shapes: Elongated and Round. Choosing the correct shape before ordering is important for a proper fit.

Measure from the center of the toilet seat mounting holes to the very front edge of the toilet bowl. An elongated bowl is typically about 18.5 inches, while a round bowl is typically about 16.5 inches.
